From The Mayor’s Desk: 06/03/2009

 Dear Friends,

What a great time to be in Dansville, with its lush springtime foliage and colorful landscapes.  I had the honor of watching our communities gather for the Dogwood and Memorial Day parades.  It brought a humbling sense of pride to me to be part of this fine, All-American village.

In the past few months the grapevine has been abuzz with what the Village Government has been doing and what they haven’t been doing.  First and foremost, I feel that the job of the Village Government is to preserve and enhance not only Dansville’s environment, but also the quality of services and public facilities, in order to promote a safe, efficient and respectful society that we all can enjoy.

I feel that this Administration has strived to meet these goals from the beginning.  While we have had to make some tough, not so popular decisions and have hit some bumps on the way, we continue on course to serve the people of this Village.  I am proud to say that economically we have restructured the budget to work in our favor; for example, in our first year budget we reduced the tax rate by 56 cents per thousand. Which was the first reduction in years! We were able to keep that tax rate with no increase for this upcoming tax year.  We reduced the Village debt by $1,385,942.  In addition, we reduced attorney expenses by $13,000 a year and sold Village owned trees for $32,000, as well as many other cutbacks.

To promote the growth of Dansville, we graciously hosted Senators Cathy Young and Charles Schumer on several occasions.  These visits have allowed us the opportunity to showcase Dansville’s highlights and discuss with them some areas of need in Dansville.  Our Village Board was able to successfully obtain an economic stimulus allotment for our streets of $370,000.

These are just a few examples of what we have accomplished.  Unfortunately, there are some people who feel we do not do enough.  While there are things we would love to have happen, some are simply not feasible and not within our limits.  We are doing our best to maintain and manage the Village.  If you have any issues or concerns, please contact us.  Lets talk about it!  My ambition is to write a letter on a regular basis in order to keep residents informed. Admittedly, there are times that I may get a little over zealous, but this is just my passion for my job and desire to do what is right.  Sometimes it doesn’t turn out as intended.  My intention is to always address any concern with common sense, any information available and a compassionate spirit.

The bottom line is that we are working toward the goal of enhancing the quality of life in the Village of Dansville.  Let’s work together to fulfill this goal!

Thank you for your time and all your efforts to make our village a better place.
